Pierce County Fire District #23’s top priority is to ensure the health and safety of our members and citizens. During the growing risk of Coronavirus (Covid-19), we want to reiterate our commitment to our citizens, but in a safe and practical manner.
We, like other departments in the region, have temporarily suspended the following items:
- Station tours & Engine visits;
- Issuing burn permits in person (please use the form on this page to get your permit);
- Blood pressure checks at stations;
- Issuing address signs;
- Public education classes;
- Community group use of our facilities; and
- Participation in community events.
Additionally, please do not deliver food items to the stations.
We are also asking the community to please refrain from visiting our fire stations for medical needs.
If you are having a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1 and let us come to you.
Our department remains staffed with committed volunteers who will assist you in your time of need. Our members have been equipped with personal protection equipment and are following recommended procedures.
We encourage our community members to follow CDC recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19:
- DO NOT PANIC. This includes avoiding hoarding of food, cleaning products, and personal hygiene products.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
- Practice social distancing
- Avoid non-essential travel
- Follow government advice and stay-home orders to limit the spread of the infection.

Remember that while many who get Covid-19 recover within a few weeks, those with immunodeficiency or compromised immune systems and who have underlying medical issues are at higher risk for developing more serious cases. Actions undertaken by you and your family to slow the spread of the disease can have direct positive impacts to those around you.
If you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19, please do not go to the emergency room. Hospitals need to be able to serve those with the most critical needs, so please contact your healthcare provider first.
